11/27/20

Associated Black Charities (ABC) will host its popular Women on the Move annual fundraiser virtually on Thursday December 3 from 6:00PM through 8:00PM. Shelonda Stokes, recently named president of the Downtown Partnership, will emcee the evening’s program.

According to Diane Bell McKoy, CEO of ABC, “What better way to close out a year that has had a devastating impact on women in particular; we look forward to coming together as a group to increase our impact in our personal, business, and community leadership roles.”

Women on The Move encourages women to build their professional and personal networks and facilitate conversations Highlights of the evening will include a VIP networking reception and a dedicated hour of “virtual coaching,” followed by lively interaction with a panel of prominent women leaders.

As the evening’s emcee, Stokes is handling one of the hardest challenges the community now faces as the business district tries to bounce back from the pandemic lockdown. A former successful entrepreneur with a degree in Electrical Engineering, she successfully pivoted her organization quickly to equip the Partnership’s operations teams with PPE and the proper safety protocols so they could return to providing public safety, litter removal, homeless outreach, and park maintenance services.

Panelists will include Dr. Melva Green, a distinguished Baltimore based psychiatrist who is changing the face of behavioral and mental health through innovative messaging and culturally focused care. She specializes in a variety of traditional services and non-traditional services from psychiatric evaluations and medication management to organizational consulting on mental health services focusing on reaching those who are marginalized and medically underserved, Dr. Green uses a variety of mediums to take mental health messages from the “couch to the community.”

Joining Dr Green are Roni Jackson, CEO and cofounder of Red Flag Mania, where she and her team are transforming online learning through investigative storytelling. Jackson has won numerous awards in her two decade plus career in marketing and advertising for well known brands Nike, Verizon, Coca Cola, and others.

Debi Young, a makeup artist who has been nominated numerous times for her work with HBO, will also be a panelist. Young has worked on over fifty motion pictures and television productions and is currently working on the film SWAN SONG, starring Mahershala Ali, in British Vancouver.

“I look forward to joining these outstanding women who will not only inspire our audience, but provide concrete direction on the steps we all must take to Claim our Value,” Stokes says.
