Maryland Municipal Magazine BRACE Special Issue Climate Change Guidebook for Municipal Officials in September/October 2020

9/10/20

The Maryland Municipal League’s (MML) upcoming September/October issue of its publication, Municipal Maryland, will be a special edition focused on building resilience against the impacts of climate change (BRACE). This issue will debut in mid-September in both print and digital versions and will serve as a handbook for municipal leaders, their staff, residents, and volunteer teams in preparing communities across Maryland for potential impacts resulting from weather and other challenges due to future changes in the climate.

More than 22 contributors, including nationally-renowned author Dr. Doug Tallmay, Ph.D, University of Delaware, representatives from the Chesapeake Bay Trust and the Maryland Environmental Finance Center, Sustainable Maryland, and others participated in the publication. Representatives from MML member municipalities contributed Community Spotlight articles which illustrate examples of BRACE practices in development in their cities and towns. The September/October BRACE issue of Municipal Maryland was created by a unique team of experts and municipal leaders, led by Gary Allen, President of the Maryland Forestry Association.

“We are pleased to share this unique and infinitely useful edition of Municipal Maryland magazine with our membership,” said Scott Hancock, MML Executive Director.

MML’s September/October BRACE issue is MML’s first to use a handbook style for local leaders as a step-by-step guide to integrating mitigation and adaption strategies for climate impact at the municipal level. Its goal is to provide guidance, detail, and examples for using recommended steps to ensure that Maryland Municipal communities are prepared for projected impacts which could arise from climate changes.

The issue will be posted on the MML website as a digital edition or pdf. Consideration may be given to larger orders of print copies for use by local green teams and community planners. Contact MML with requests.
