Pitango Gelato Announces Franchising Plans

Pitango Gelato Franchise Co., LLC, the franchise arm of Washington, D.C. and Baltimore-based Pitango Gelato, announced plans to franchise the concept nationally. Pitango, which opened its first gelato shop in 2007 in Fells Point, currently has four company owned locations in the DC metro area and one in Baltimore.

Pitango serves authentic Italian gelato and sorbet made with organic milk and allnatural ingredients without additives or preservatives. Pitango concentrates on serving simple, classic flavors. Ingredients include single origin chocolate, pistachios and hazelnuts roasted in Italy and fresh, seasonal fruit. All Pitango gelato and sorbets are prepared at their plant located on an organic dairy farm in Pennsylvania and are churned on-site at each Pitango location to ensure optimum quality.

Pitango’s coffee is sourced from Vigilante, an independent coffee roaster that was named as Washington DC’s best coffee by the Washington Post Express in 2016.

Stores also serve espresso drinks, hot chocolate made from single origin chocolate and fresh squeezed lemonade; and pastries baked fresh daily.
