Viewers in areas of Maryland and portions of southern Pennsylvania using antennas will need to rescan their TVs to find MPT
Maryland Public Television (MPT) station WMPB 67 in Owings Mills is moving broadcast frequencies on Friday, March 13 at 9 a.m. Viewers who watch TV for free with an over-the-air antenna should rescan their televisions to continue watching MPT’s central Maryland-based station. This may include viewers in Baltimore City, as well as Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Cecil, Harford, Howard, and Montgomery counties. Viewers in portions of York and Adam counties in Pennsylvania may also need to rescan their TVs to watch MPT over-the-air.
Other TV broadcasters across the region will also be changing broadcast frequencies on March 13. These changes are being made to comply with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements.
Rescanning is accomplished when a command is given to a television directing it to search to find all of the available channels in the surrounding geographic area. Viewers do not need to purchase new equipment or services, and those who watch MPT using a cable or satellite TV service will not need to rescan because their service provider will handle the task. When the rescan process is complete, viewers will continue to find MPT on the same channel number.
On Friday, March 13, select “scan,” “auto tune,” or “auto program” on the television or converter box control menu to start the scanning process. Instructions are usually available by pressing the "set-up" or "menu" buttons on the TV remote control.

Stations across the state are changing frequencies at different times as required by the FCC. MPT’s stations in Annapolis (WMPT 22), Oakland (WGPT 36), and Salisbury (WCPB 28) moved their broadcast frequencies in August 2019. Its station in Hagerstown (WWPB 31) is scheduled to move frequencies at 9 a.m. on May 1, 2020.
