Chaney Enterprises, a ready-mix concrete, aggregates, custom blends, and related construction supplies provider was recently recognized with two awards from the National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association (NSSGA). Chaney’s William F. Childs IV was honored with a lifetime achievement award and Chaney as a company was awarded the Louis Griesemer Sterling Safety Award.
The NSSGA awards recognize aggregates operations throughout the United States and Canada for extraordinary commitment to safety, superior performance as environmental stewards, as well as community involvement and support of activities that enhance the image of the aggregates industry.
Childs was one of two individuals presented with a lifetime achievement award for outstanding commitment to the industry. He recently retired as CEO after nearly 30 years with the company and continues to serve as a director. Under Childs’ leadership, Chaney Enterprises became one of the largest family-owned ready-mixed concrete and sand and gravel producers in the Mid-Atlantic.

"Taking care of the communities we serve while demonstrating commitment to the environment is at the forefront of his leadership and he’s incredibly deserving of this award.”
The company also won the Sterling Safety Award for the medium operations category, which was created in 1994 to honor the companies that have the lowest total accident and incidence rate for the previous year. The award recognizes operations that maintain a safe workplace, evidenced by its safety performance over a consecutive period without an MSHA-reportable injury.
The awards were presented during NSSGA’s 2019 Legislature and Policy Forum held in Washington D.C.
