Christopher Dean Joins Miles & Stockbridge as Principal

Miles & Stockbridge, a leading business law firm in the mid-Atlantic region, announced today that highly-regarded health care lawyer Christopher Dean has joined the firm as a principal in its growing health care practice. Mr. Dean represents hospitals, physicians, physician group practices, and other health care facilities on health care regulatory and traditional business law issues. For ambulatory surgical centers and other health care facilities, he advises them on the Certificate of Need program, licensing and other regulatory matters. He previously worked in the Baltimore office of Baker Donelson.

Regulatory Compliance

He provides regulatory advice on Medicare and Medicaid billing, reimbursement, and compliance, the federal Stark Law and anti-kickback statute, the Maryland Patient Referral Law, the Privacy and Security Rules of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH). 

Advanced Payment Models

He counsels clients on a broad range of Advanced Payment Models under the Affordable Care Act of 2010, including the negotiation and drafting of participation agreements for the Bundled Payment for Care Improvement Advanced (BPCI Advanced) model and other advanced payment models.

Health Care Contracts & Transactions 

He advises on regulatory matters related to the merger and acquisition of health care providers, ambulatory surgery centers, and professional corporations. He negotiates and prepares complex management and professional services agreements involving health care professionals and hospitals.

Mr. Dean graduated summa cum laude from the University of Baltimore School of Law and with merit from the United States Naval Academy.

He currently serves on the board of directors of the Navy Mutual Aid Association, which works to provide affordable life insurance and annuities to service members and veterans. He serves on the Peer Review Committee of the Attorney Grievance Commission of Maryland. He has played many leadership roles with the Maryland State Bar Association, including currently serving on Health Law Section Council and previously chairing the Health Law Section. In addition, he recently helped lead and administer a grassroots community grants program in Maryland.
