Program includes John Rutter’s What Sweeter Music and R. Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music
Deer Creek Chorale—northern Baltimore and Harford Counties’ premier adult and youth choral organization—will perform with the Deer Creek Youth Choir and Baltimore-based Occasional Symphony in a program called, “What Sweeter Music,” on November 24, 2019 at 4 p.m. at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, 1200 E. Churchville Rd., Bel Air, Md. For tickets, visit https://deercreekchorale.org/
The program celebrates the gift and blessing of music and song – a fitting preparation for the Thanksgiving holiday. The concert includes John Rutter’s What Sweeter Music, a tender arrangement of a favorite Christmas carol, and Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Serenade to Music, a setting of a discussion of the music of the spheres excerpted from the fifth act of Shakespeare’s Merchant of Venice. For the complete repertoire list and event details see Complete Event Details.
This program of thankfulness also celebrates the gift of the beauty of nature, which kicks off the Deer Creek Chorale’s season-long focus on nature and water. As part of this theme, the DCC will uphold its commitment to being Maryland’s only choir with a dual mission of singing and service and will partner with the Gunpowder River Keepers® (GRK). The GRK is one of 18 designated programs in the Chesapeake region’s WATERKEEPER ALLIANCE® that brings awareness about protecting, conserving and restoring the Gunpowder River and its watershed for the benefit of the public. DCC and its choirs will volunteer to do river walks throughout April to clean up the River and beautify its banks. The 2019-2020 season culminates in a water- and nature-inspired concert called, The Wonder of Nature’s Beauty, on May 3, 2020 at 4 p.m. at Goucher College’s Kraushaar Auditorium. Visit deercreekchorale.org for complete season details.
“Music is one of life’s greatest blessings,” says DCC Artistic Director and founder Marty Banghart. “Please join us as we give thanks for the blessing of music in our everyday lives. Let music inspire and encourage your heart as you prepare for the Thanksgiving holiday!”

About Deer Creek Chorale
The Deer Creek Chorale is the premier choir in Maryland’s Harford and Baltimore Counties. The organization was founded in 2007 and boasts three ensembles: its flagship large, intergenerational adult choir of more than 75 singers, two youth choirs called Vivace and Jubilate, and a chamber choir. The DCC is Maryland’s only choir with a dual mission: to sing and serve. Members volunteer their time to support the season’s selected charitable organization, and choral programs are used as a vehicle to educate audiences about the charity’s mission. The organization’s artistic leaders include Artistic Director Marty Banghart, who is also the organization’s founder, Assistant Director Wayne Perry, and DCC Youth Choir Director Julie Culotta.
