Midtown Group Expands Into Contract Legal Services
February 8, 2010 - Washington, D.C. -- The Midtown Group is aggressively moving into contract legal services with the recent appointment of an executive to oversee that business.
The Midtown Group, a leading Washington, D.C.-based professional career consulting firm, announced today that Rich Thuemmler has joined the company as Director of Contract Legal Services. This is a critical position as The Midtown Group grows its contract legal services division.
Most recently, Thuemmler was a Branch Manager for Randstad in Northern Virginia. Prior to that, he served as a Director for HIRECounsel in Washington, D.C., before moving to Legal eStaffing in Northern Virginia as the Director of the company's temporary and project divisions.
"We couldn't be more excited about Rich's proven track record and capabilities, which we will leverage with our existing relationships," says David Stefan, the company's Managing Partner.
The Midtown Group has placed attorneys in full-time jobs over the years, but it has not focused as much on contract legal services. With Thuemmler now at The Midtown Group, the company expects that contract legal services will become a big part of its overall revenue stream.
"Rich's ability to recruit, market and drive new business is extremely valuable," Stefan says, "and being able to offer both full-time and contract legal placements makes us a one-stop shop for this sector."
Raised in Sandusky, Ohio, Thuemmler received his undergraduate degree from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and then graduated from the University of Toledo College of Law. From there, he went to work for LexisNexis® as a National Applications Consultant, first at its corporate headquarters in Dayton, Ohio, then in Washington, where he trained law firms on how to use the company's products.
While in D.C. at LexisNexis®, Thuemmler found that law firm associates frequently would ask him questions about their careers, so he decided his skills would best be put to use in the staffing industry, where he's been since 2003.
Thuemmler started at The Midtown Group in mid-January and he quickly has compiled a large database of candidates so that when employers, namely corporations and law firms, need to staff a project with dozens or hundreds of contract attorneys, paralegals and administrative staff, The Midtown Group will position itself well to win this business.
"The window for these opportunities closes fast, and we don't want to miss them," Stefan says.
Not only does Thuemmler place candidates into contract positions, but he also helps employers find temporary office space and computers. Contract attorneys and other legal staff generally provide services such as document review, document translation, as well as research and writing.
It's a good time for Thuemmler to come on board at The Midtown Group, as the weak economy has forced many law firms to lay off junior-level associates that often handle this kind of work. These firms, as a result, are turning to contract attorneys to get their short-term projects completed.
"This is a great opportunity for me," Thuemmler says. "It's a team environment at The Midtown Group, and I find that quite appealing and also extremely important."
