M.C. Dean, Inc., the electrical design-build and systems integration firm, has teamed with PC Construction and won a contract for upgrades to the  at DC Water’s Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment plant.

DC Water operates the Blue Plains Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant, the world's largest treatment facility of its kind. At Blue Plains, DC Water provides service to over 1.7 million people, including residents of the District of Columbia and significant portions of Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland and Fairfax and Loudoun Counties in Virginia.

The four-story 125,000 square foot Final Dewatering Building is located on the District’s southern-most tip, which covers 150-acres of Potomac River shoreline. It has been instrumental in the environmental protection of the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay watersheds since it began operations in 1983.

The DC Water project will consist of renovation and outfitting of electrical rooms with new medium voltage switchgear and electrical systems. The M.C. Dean and PC Construction team will coordinate the demolition of existing switchgear and electrical systems while maintaining power throughout the project area to guarantee the continuation of the plant’s critical round-the-clock operation.

The project is scheduled for completion by January 2015.
