Jack Basso Joins Parsons Brinckerhoff

Peter J. "Jack" Basso, a nationally recognized expert on transportation finance and policy, has been named a Senior Advisor in the strategic consulting group at Parsons Brinckerhoff, a global infrastructure strategic consulting, engineering and program/construction management organization.
In his new position, Mr. Basso will advise the firm’s clients on transportation finance and policy issues. He will be based in Parsons Brinckerhoff’s Washington, DC office.
Mr. Basso’s career includes leadership roles at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) as well as senior positions in the US Department of Transportation.
From 2001 to February 2013, he oversaw the management of AASHTO as Chief Operating Officer and Business Development Director. In this capacity, he represented the interests of state departments of transportation, developed new member services, and aggressively marketed technical services provided for AASHTO members. He worked closely with congressional staff and associations with mutual interests in transportation financing issues.
Before joining AASHTO, Mr. Basso served as Assistant Secretary for Budget and Programs and as Chief Financial Officer at the US Department of Transportation. In this role, he oversaw the development of a $60-billion budget and interacted with senior officials, members of Congress, and key industry officials on a wide variety of transportation matters. Prior to his appointment to this position, he served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Budget and Programs.
Mr. Basso's 36 years in public service included assignments such as Assistant Director for General Management at the Office of Management and Budget, Deputy Chair for Management at the National Endowment for the Arts, and Director of Fiscal Services for the
Federal Highway Administration. He has held numerous positions in administration and management with the Federal Highway Administration and has served as a board member and chair of numerous councils, including five years as a member of the President's Council on
Management Improvement, representing the independent agencies of the executive branch. During his government service, Mr. Basso’s achievements were recognized through numerous awards including the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive and six Senior Executive Service awards.

Mr. Basso has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from the University of Maryland.
