Fairfax, VA-based MBP to Provide Construction Liaison Services for Washington Monument
MBP has been selected by the National Park Service (NPS) to provide construction liaison services for the Washington Monument Earthquake Repairs project.
The one-year-long project involves exterior and interior repairs to the Washington Monument, a stone masonry obelisk with a total height of 555 feet and 5-1/8 inches. The Monument is structurally stable, but sustained significant cracking and other interior and exterior damage in the upper portions and also suffered from significant water intrusion into the interior portions of the building.
MBP will provide on-site coordination, administrative oversight, and construction management support to the park management and project team for the duration of the project. The firm will serve as an on-site point-of-contact to park management as needed and will provide coordination assistance.
The Washington Monument was damaged by a magnitude 5.8 earthquake, with an epicenter near Mineral, Virginia, on August 23, 2011. The earthquake caused significant damage to the Monument, and as a result it has been closed until the building can be repaired.
