Project Includes New Gym and Indoor Pool Facility for Charter School

Blake Real Estate announced that construction has begun on a major expansion project at Eagle Academy, a Washington, DC public charter school located in Ward 8 at 3400 Wheeler Road, SE.  Blake serves as construction manager. Whiting-Turner is the general contractor and Shinberg-Levinas is the architect for the project.

The school’s 27,000-square-foot expansion facility will house a new gymnasium and indoor pool which will both be available for community use. 

According to Don Silverstein, Blake Real Estate Senior Vice President for Development, the new addition will be completed in the fall of 2013.

In 2011, the D.C. Government entered into a long term lease with Eagle Academy for its current location, the 60,000-square-foot former  McGogney Elementary School.  The project team completed the renovation of that structure in time for the start of this school year. 

The completed facility is designed for LEED Silver certification.
