Maryland’s Hatch Exhibits Creates Kid-Friendly PPE During COVID-19, Powered by Canon Solutions America

Explaining to children why they must wear face coverings in public can be tough– but may be easier if the protective gear transforms them into a robot or their favorite animal.

That’s why Canon Solutions America is supporting its customer, Maryland-based Hatch Exhibits, which has shifted its business to focus solely on creating personal protective equipment (PPE) for medical facilities and communities across the country. As part of these efforts, Hatch Exhibits has created a line of kid-friendly face shields called Shield Pals. These light weight and comfortable headgear and face shield combos are available in superhero, robot and more than a dozen animal designs and can be easily disinfected and sterilized for later use. Hatch Exhibits has been able to quickly manufacture approximately 3,000-4,000 headgear/shields per day.

Last month, Hatch Exhibits, went from operating as a full-service exhibit production shop in Maryland to a producer of protective face shields, disposable gowns, and touchless doorknobs to help those in their community during the COVID-19 pandemic. Thanks to Canon’s Colorado 1650, the MultiCam Celero 7, a Colex 10’ x 5’ Sharpcut, and Canon Solutions America’s support in sourcing other necessary materials, Hatch Exhibits has been able to quickly manufacture this gear to help create a safe workspace for its staff to continue with essential projects. The company has implemented a multiple shift system, alternating employees in order to help ensure their safety. Using its Colorado 1650 device, the company has been able to print large floor signage to help continuously enforce social distancing while employees are working.

“We commend Hatch Exhibits for their efforts in supporting the needs of their community, and their commitment to the safety of their employees during these tough times,” said Peter P. Kowalczuk, president, Canon Solutions America, Inc. “The company’s efforts directly align with our corporate philosophy of Kyosei, and our corporate social responsibility both to our employees and surrounding communities.”
