Former federal prosecutor now works on workplace discrimination and harassment issues

Employment law attorney Tom Spiggle, who is founder of the Spiggle Law Firm, was recognized as a 2018 "Virginia Super Lawyer” for his work focusing on protecting employees from pregnancy and caregiver discrimination, sexual harassment and wrongful termination.

“It’s a great honor to be selected,” said Spiggle. “Apart from your clients, the best judge of a lawyer’s work is another lawyer, so it means a lot to be recognized bySuper Lawyers.”

The head of the Spiggle Law Firm was named to the 2018 list compiled by Super Lawyers Magazine, a Thomson Reuters publication. The selection process includes peer nominations, independent research and peer evaluations, and only five percent of licensed active attorneys in the state are recognized.

A former federal prosecutor and a father of four, Spiggle started the private practice after seeing the toll his work was taking on his family. He decided to get into employment discrimination cases because he felt that too many employers were mistreating their workers in areas like pay equity, pregnancy discrimination and sexual harassment.

In 2014, he wrote You’re Pregnant,You’re Fired: Protecting Mothers, Fathers, and Other Caregivers in the Workplace, available on Amazon, to share his knowledge about pregnancy discrimination with the broader public.

Since its founding in 2009, the Spiggle Law firm has expanded, with offices in Washington, D.C.; Arlington, Va.; and Nashville, Tenn. It now also offers a“Legal Leverage Program,”which guides potential clients and others who may have felt wronged by an employer through the process of fighting for restitution.

“It’s great to be recognized, but the honor should really go to the entire team here at the Spiggle Law Firm,” Spiggle added. “None of us could do the work alone.”
