Lorien Expands Encore at Turf Valley Adding Innovative Skilled Nursing Suites

5/8/18

The new suites offer telemedicine capabilities and will expand Lorien’s services to an additional 750 Howard County residents a year.

Lorien Health Services, a family owned nursing home company and industry innovator, announced today that it is expanding its Encore at Turf Valley skilled nursing facility offering new private suites that will use the latest technology to care for its residents.

Lorien’s new iPerformance Suites will enable the company to expand services to an additional 750 Howard County resident a year and offer a progressive and advanced student training partnership with the Howard County Office of Workforce Development.

“We are thrilled to work with the county on this project,” said Louis Grimmel Jr., Administrator, Lorien Health Services’ Encore location. “We will deliver the highest quality of care, provide an innovative training experience, and will change our residents’ lives for the better.”

Lorien celebrated the grand opening of its iPerformance unit with a ribbon cutting and ceremony dedicated to Nancy Butler, R.N., Encore’s former Director of Nursing. The new iPerformance suites unit will be named after her.

“She was a constant professional,” Mr. Grimmel said. “Her commitment to her work and her people and the Encore community was second to none. We dedicate this expansion to our Nancy.”

Allen H. Kittleman, County Executive, Howard County, attended the ceremony calling the Encore operation “amazing.”

“There is no facility like this in Howard County,” Mr. Kittleman said. “To have these iPerformance Suites that is the wave of the future. You have seen that there is a future we have to provide. It is not status quo, we always need to get better and Encore is getting better today.”

The new suites will offer a unique nurse call system which electronically signals caregiver’s tablets for immediate response, enhanced security features, and an in-house CLIA-waived lab with on-site testing and result.

The suites will be equipped with the latest telemedicine capabilities. This will allow Encore to bring the physician to the resident’s bedside 24-hours per day, 7-days a week. With this two-way enhanced technology, the resident will be able to see and speak with the physician, thus, providing a sense of security to the resident. Having capabilities such as continuous EKG and end tidal CO2 monitoring, pulse oximetry, and an electronic stethoscope will provide a meaningful examination. The ability to perform critical tests such as EKG’s and laboratory studies within minutes when a resident has an acute need will allow Encore to provide immediate care so that the resident will not have to be subjected to an Emergency Room transfer.

“This is why we are so excited about this expansion,” Mr. Grimmel said.
