The Casper Firm Files $20M Lawsuit Against Fannie Mae On Behalf Of Employee Exploited For Sex By Senior Manager

1/17/18

The Casper Firm, LLC announced today that it has filed a $20 million lawsuit against the Federal National Mortgage Association on behalf of a woman who was sexually exploited by a senior manager.

According to the Complaint filed in the Superior Court for the District of Columbia, plaintiff Soliel Bonnin was an adult dancer in Washington, D.C. when she met Joseph King, a senior manager at Fannie Mae. When Bonnin told King she wanted to stop dancing and start a professional career, King offered her a job working for him in the department he supervised that provides support for Fannie Mae executives. King offered to be Bonnin’s mentor and provide her with on-the-job training. Based on his actions, it appeared that King was not interested in her work performance. Bonnin accused King of isolating her from other employees, restricting her work, and intimidating and threatening her when she didn’t cooperate. During the work day, King took Bonnin out to lengthy lunches with alcohol and other intoxicants, after which King would demand she have sex with him. Bonnin lived in fear of retaliation, as King told her he was being considered for a Director position. Bonnin alleged that King’s superiors allowed the misconduct, and even approved expense reports for King to take Bonnin on unnecessary business trips. When Bonnin no longer could stand the harassment, she obtained a protective order against King in the District Court for Montgomery County, in which the court ordered King to have no contact with her. Only then did Fannie Mae terminate King.

“This is an extreme example of a high level manager using his authority and power to sexually exploit a female subordinate. It didn’t stop until Ms. Bonnin obtained a protective order in court” said Bonnin’s attorney, Ari Casper, founder of The Casper Firm, LLC. Casper went on to say “We are in the process of a national movement to protect women from this type of abusive behavior. Whether it be in Hollywood, Capitol Hill, corporate America, or the neighborhood grocery store, women should be allowed to go work without being harassed by their male supervisors. I am proud of Ms. Bonnin for having the courage to come forward. We need to send a message to employers that being the boss doesn’t give a person the right to intimidate and sexually harass employees. As we have seen with others in the news recently, companies who allow this abuse of power must be held accountable.”
