Caroline County will not be getting a Walmart Supercenter after all.
The county announced this week that Walmart has scrapped plans to build a 158,000-square-foot Supercenter in a development planned near the Ladysmith exit off Interstate 95. It would have been the first Walmart in the county.
Chesterfield County-based Blackwood Development is developing the 40-acre property that is west of the interstate at the southwest corner of Ladysmith and Green roads.
Walmart decided against building a store in Caroline because the chain is reducing the number of new stores it plans to build annually from hundreds to 25, the county said.
