Proposed Pipeline Yard Tabled Amid Fierce Opposition

After dozens of residents raised concerns about the proposal, the Augusta County Board of Zoning Appeals tabled an application Thursday to create a 34-acre construction yard in Churchville to store material for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline project.

The board said it needed time to gather more information on the application, which was made by Dominion Energy, the pipeline's lead utility, and to address the concerns of more than 40 residents who spoke against the proposal at the meeting. The application will be revisited in February, zoning board member s said.

Those opposing the ACP crammed into the Augusta County Government Center for the afternoon meeting before the zoning board. The pipeline project is awaiting the remaining state and federal permits it needs to start construction, as well as a final approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The commission is expected to OK the project.
