A gold nugget of sorts was tucked in one of the staff presentations made Tuesday to members of the Virginia Port Authority board.
Hampton Boulevard residents and commuters weary of dodging container trucks are about to get an early Christmas present, board members learned.
A part of a long-awaited local transportation project – the Interstate 564 Intermodal Connector – is set to open in about two weeks. The nearly three-mile-long, four-lane highway will link I-564 directly to the North Gate of Norfolk International Terminals, the Port of Virginia’s largest container-handling facility.
It will get an estimated 740 trucks a day off of congested Hampton and Terminal boulevards, even if not right away.
