Colorado-based online grocer Door to Door Organics unexpectedly shut down late last week, less than a year after absorbing a Charlottesville-based rival and taking over its market.
The company announced Friday via a posting on its website that after 20 years in business, Door to Door had immediately ceased operations. The unsigned posting cited “recent events in our industry” and its impact on funding prospects among the causes for the closure.
“In the end, it’s hard to point to one thing that led us to this conclusion,” the announcement said.
In June 2016, Charlottesville-based online grocer Relay Foods announced that it would merge with Door to Door, saying at the time that the combined company would operate under a new brand that would serve 63 markets across 18 states and Washington, D.C.
