Davita Vance-Cooks Joins Grant Thornton Public Sector

11/19/17

ALEXANDRIA, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Davita Vance-Cooks has joined Grant Thornton LLP as a director in its Public Sector practice. Based in the firm’s Alexandria, Va., office, Vance-Cooks will provide operations transformation and change-management support across the practice’s Civilian business.

Vance-Cooks brings more than 35 years of federal management and private sector experience to Grant Thornton. Most recently, she was director of the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO). Vance-Cooks championed a modernization strategy that brought the GPO into the digital era, expanding public access to digital government information. Nominated by former President Barack Obama, she became the first woman and African-American to lead the agency following her Senate confirmation in 2013.

“Under Davita’s leadership, GPO became a stand-out agency in terms of both achievement and fiscal responsibility,” said Naval Aggarwal, principal with Grant Thornton Public Sector. “Davita’s track record of successful change-management initiatives will be invaluable to the work we do with clients to transform and modernize their operations. At the GPO, for example, she diversified the product and service portfolio to include ebooks, mobile apps, and bulk data downloads—and she readied the GPO’s production operations to produce the next-generation U.S. passport.”

Before assuming leadership of the GPO, Vance-Cooks held a succession of senior management positions at the agency beginning in 2004. She progressed from Deputy Managing Director of Customer Services to Managing Director of GPO’s Publications and Information Sales business. In 2011, she was named GPO’s Chief of Staff, and later that year, Deputy Public Printer. Before joining the GPO, she held several private sector management positions in the health insurance industry.

Vance-Cooks received a master’s degree in business administration from Columbia University and a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University.
