Virginia Secretary of Transportation Aubrey L. Layne Jr. will become the state’s top finance official in Gov.-elect Ralph Northam’s administration, filling an opening created by the retirement of longtime Secretary of Finance Ric Brown.
In a news conference Thursday at the Capitol, Northam announced an initial wave of personnel moves in his emerging administration, with several well-known statehouse figures staying and one leaving.
Brown, 71, an Arlington County native who has worked in state government since 1971, is retiring after serving as finance secretary to the past three Virginia governors.
