Annual employee program supports affordable housing, sustainability, healthy communities across the region

JBG SMITH Properties (NYSE: JBGS), a leading owner and developer of high-quality, mixed-use properties in the Washington, DC market, wrapped up the company’s eighth annual Days of Giving community service program. JBG SMITH employees volunteered more than 2,500 hours this fall working alongside 14 nonprofit organizations, helping the company reach almost 15,000 cumulative volunteer hours since the program began in 2010.

Initiatives ranged from renovating a comfort home for military families while loved ones received medical treatment, planting rain gardens at an elementary school as part of an educational storm water management project, to chopping vegetables and packing groceries for those without access to fresh food. Employees gained first-hand exposure into the diverse opportunities and challenges facing the Metro area, and put into action JBG SMITH’s commitment to affordable housing, sustainability, and healthy communities.

“JBG SMITH’s investment in the Washington, DC market goes further than real estate,” said W. Matthew Kelly, JBG SMITH CEO. “Days of Giving goes beyond our financial commitment to the neighborhoods we call home by investing the time and energy of our dedicated team into many of the worthy charitable organizations that serve those communities. We strive to be personally involved in addressing the neediest causes in the neighborhoods in which we invest.”

This year’s program partners included A Wider Circle, an organization that helps children and adults lift themselves out of poverty, and furnishes the homes of more than 1,000 children and adults every month. JBG SMITH volunteers also assisted with the Neighbor-to-Neighbor program, sorting through newly donated furniture, linens, kitchen items, and toys, stocking their showrooms, loading/unloading trucks, and assisting clients as they selected items to take home.

Additional Days of Giving organizational partners included Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment, Anacostia Watershed, Bread for the City, DC Greens, Dreaming Out Loud, Food & Friends, Habitat for Humanity, Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens, Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless, Potomac Conservancy, Rebuilding Together Alexandria, Rebuilding Together MoCo, and Yachad.

Days of Giving is an annual campaign under JBG SMITH’s corporate social responsibility platform, JBG SMITH Cares, allowing employees to receive paid time off to participate with the nonprofit of their choice. Each year, the program invests more into bettering the communities in which JBG SMITH works.
