Maryland lost to Michigan, 35-10, Nov. 11 to fall to 4-6 overall and 2-5 in the Big Ten. Here are four observations on the loss:
1. Quarterback Ryan Brand struggled early, but he played better late during his first start.
Michigan's defense, which came into play ranked first in the Big Ten in total defense, would've posed a formidable challenge against any of the Terps' quarterbacks. Brand, a walk-on sophomore quarterback from Detroit, got the nod against the Wolverines.
Sophomore quarterback Max Bortenschlager, who had started the past six games, warmed up before the contest but didn't play other than holding for two field goal attempts by senior Henry Darmstadter. Bortenschlager absorbed a hard hit to the head/shoulder area at Rutgers Nov. 4 and was termed a game-time decision heading into the Michigan game.
