New Program Supports UMD Children’s Hospital

SECU – Maryland’s largest credit union – will be a sponsor of the eight-time Major Arena Soccer League champion Baltimore Blast, which recently moved their home games to SECU Arena on the Towson University campus.

To celebrate the relationship, SECU is launching the Goals for Kids program. For every goal scored by the Blast during their regular season home games, SECU will donate $100 to the University of Maryland’s Children’s Hospital, which combines state-of the-art medicine with family-centered care to treat children throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

“SECU has a long history of giving back to the communities we serve, and we are very excited to support the UMD Children’s Hospital through our sponsorship of the Baltimore Blast,” says SECU President and CEO Rod Staatz. “Both of our organizations embody the same values – a commitment to excellence and a dedication to serving Marylanders. We were thrilled when the Blast announced their move to SECU Arena and welcome the opportunity to bring players and fans from the Greater Baltimore area to this state-of-the-art venue.”

The Baltimore Blast will play 11 home games at SECU Arena. Their season starts this Friday, November 10, when they take on the Cedar Rapids Rampage.

In addition to Goals for Kids, SECU’s sponsorship of the Blast will include Blast player appearances at SECU branches and throughout the community, and a $5 discount on Baltimore Blast tickets for all SECU members and employees. SECU will also support the “Parade of Champions” that occurs at each game, where area youth are recognized for their achievements, whether it be on the soccer field, in the classroom, or in the community.

As a member-owned Credit Union, SECU has a long tradition of community outreach, including food and school supply donations to various local organizations and monthly employee volunteer initiatives. SECU also provides free financial education presentations in the community and financial assistance via programs like Kids Helping Kids, The Love Blanket, A Wider Circle, and The United Way of Central Maryland. SECU’s sponsorship of the Baltimore Blast continues its efforts to support the communities of Maryland.
