Developer Extends Purchase Option On Shenandoah Life Woods By 60 Days

The North Carolina development company with controversial plans to build apartments on part of the former Shenandoah Life Insurance property in southwest Roanoke has extended its option on the land by another 60 days.

Berkley Hall LLC entered into a six-month option to buy 17 mostly wooded acres on Brambleton Avenue from owner Carilion Clinic earlier this year. In August, Carilion confirmed that the developer had unilaterally exercised a 90-day extension of the option that was available under the original contract.

Friday, about the time that extension was due to expire, Carilion spokeswoman Hannah Cline said the health care company agreed to the additional 60 days at the request of Berkley Hall.
