Maryland Hospitals Reach HIMSS Stage 7 with MEDITECH's Clinically-Integrated EHR

11/2/17

Frederick Memorial Hospital (FMH) and Union Hospital of Cecil County (UHCC) are the first MEDITECH customers in Maryland to reach Stage 7 on the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model (EMRAM). Both organizations are now part of an elite group of validated hospitals harnessing technology to support optimized patient care with the use of an advanced Electronic Health Record (EHR).

"MEDITECH congratulates FMH and UHCC on their prestigious HIMSS Stage 7 recognition and for reaching the highest industry standard of EHR utilization," Helen Waters, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at MEDITECH said. "Their commitment to exceptional patient care inspires us at MEDITECH to continue to disrupt the industry and develop innovative EHR solutions for our customers and the patients they serve."

According to HIMSS Analytics, Stage 7 hospitals are fully-digital and no longer use paper charts to deliver and manage patient care. They also use data warehousing to analyze patterns of clinical data to improve quality of care, patient safety, and care delivery efficiency. Clinical information is readily shared via standardized electronic transactions and the hospital can produce a summary of data continuity for all services of care, whether for inpatient, outpatient, ED or ambulatory.

Frederick Memorial Hospital (Frederick, Md.)

A MEDITECH customer since 1989, the 233-bed facility is the hub of the much larger Frederick Regional Health System (FRHS). To keep pace with the growing Frederick County population, the area's leading healthcare provider has expanded their networks while maintaining a focus on delivering quality care.

"HIMSS Stage 7 is not something you can reach overnight. It took hard work and due diligence of everyone at the organization. From nursing to ambulatory to clinicals and financials — all stood steadfast," Michelle Mahan, CFO at FMH said. "With the MEDITECH EHR, our community hospital has achieved what only a small percentage of hospitals have been able to achieve and we're extremely proud of this accomplishment."

Union Hospital of Cecil County (Elkton, Md.)

A MEDITECH customer since 1993, UHCC is an award-winning, full-service community hospital. Nationally recognized for clinical excellence in the treatment and prevention of disease, the 122-bed not-for-profit hospital is dedicated to providing superior, personalized, quality healthcare.

"We are extremely proud of our staff for taking the initiative to become one of the few hospitals in our state to reach Stage 7," President and CEO at UHCC Rich Szumel, MD said. "This great accomplishment would never have been possible without the support and collaboration across our organization and MEDITECH. It's an achievement that Union Hospital takes great pride in, and furthers our commitment to providing the best care possible to our patients."

"Our Stage 7 designation is a testament to UHCC's successful optimization of MEDITECH's EHR to maximize clinical workflow and improve patient outcomes," Senior Vice President and CIO at UHCC, Anne Lara said.
