Virginia Port Authority Board Will Be Protected From Any House-Cleaning

No matter who’s elected governor, don’t look for any big reshuffling of the Virginia Port Authority’s board afterward.

As a result of legislation passed by the General Assembly this year, board members no longer serve “at the pleasure of the governor” and can be removed only for cause.

You might recall former Gov. Bob McDonnell’s housecleaning of six years ago. Midsummer, he announced the replacement of 10 of the board’s 11 governor-appointed commissioners.

McDonnell and other top state officials cited disappointment with the port’s slow rebound from the recession.
