Augusta County Broadband Push: Grants Sought For Wireless Tower, Fiber Connectivity

Augusta County is one step closer to making the internet more accessible.

Wednesday night, the Augusta County Board of Supervisors decided on which projects to make applications for in order to receive some 2018 grant funds.

Last year, the county applied for state funding from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and received a response from Lingo Networks to partner up as the internet service provider on the application.

By April, nearly $945,000 in grants were awarded through the Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) to Albemarle, Augusta, Bland, Gloucester and Greensville counties. The program provides funding for communities partnering with private sector providers to extend broadband access to unserved areas of the Commonwealth, a release said.
