In the fourth match of her collegiate career, UMBC freshman Carmen Freeman played in front of the largest fan base in NCAA volleyball. The crowd at the University of Nebraska's Bob Devaney Sports Center Sept. 1 was announced at 7,907, close to the Cornhuskers' NCAA-leading average of 8,199.
Although then-No. 12 Nebraska handed the Retrievers a three-set loss, Freeman wasn't intimidated by the crowd or the opponent.
"It was the greatest experience I could ever imagine," Freeman said. "I was really energized to play there."
