Stoel Rives LLP is pleased to announce that J. Nathanael Watson has joined the firm as an Of Counsel attorney in the Environment, Land Use and Natural Resources (ELUNR) Group in Seattle. Watson adds his litigation experience to Stoel Rives’ national practice, including recent matters involving the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act, the Indian Reorganization Act, tribal recognition, the National Environmental Policy Act, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air Act, federal common law trespass actions, and First Amendment freedom of association.
“Nate’s background and experiences fit nicely with our strong environment and natural resources litigation practice in Seattle,” said Stoel Rives Seattle Office Managing Partner Vanessa Power. “Adding Nate to our team provides our clients another first class resource in the Pacific Northwest, who can serve client needs locally and nationally, across a range of regulatory issues.”
Watson was previously employed as a trial attorney for the Environment & Natural Resources Division of the U.S. Department of Justice—from 2009 to 2013 for the division’s Natural Resources Section in Washington, D.C., and from 2014 to 2017 for its Indian Resources Section in Denver, Colo. After law school, he was a law clerk for the Honorable Andrew J. Kleinfeld of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
“I am looking forward to taking the next steps in my legal career with Stoel Rives, a firm with a sterling reputation for client service in the Pacific Northwest,” said Watson. “I have been involved in a wide variety of cases and matters, and I believe working for Stoel Rives gives me a great opportunity to fully use that experience and to expand on it.”
Watson received his law degree from Emory University School of Law and his bachelor’s degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a member of the Georgia State Bar and is in the process of applying for admission by motion to the Washington State Bar.
