Perrone Robotics Recognizes James Gosling as Member of Advisory Committee

9/26/17

Perrone Robotics, Inc. is pleased to recognize James Gosling as a Technical Advisor to the company.

James is widely known as the "Father of Java" but has been influential in the computer industry from his university days where he created the most popular Emacs editor for code, and one of the first multi-format text editor combining text and graphics in multiple windows. In 1995 James created Java, a virtual-machine based language that advanced the state of the art of computing by allowing cross-platform execution without recompilation, a secure and robust "sandbox" model, and just-in-time compilation of code for optimization. Java is the most popular language in the world with almost 10M developers worldwide. James has been interested in the embedded and robotics spaces for a long time and is currently the Chief Software Architect at Liquid Robotics that builds and operates a robotic unmanned surface vehicle.

"As a robotics software platform company leveraging a hard-real-time Java foundation, it doesn't get any better than to have James Gosling onboard to consult with," stated Paul Perrone, CEO and founder of Perrone Robotics. "James brings a strong interest in robotics and real-time solutions which were one of the cornerstones of his Java effort. In fact, the very first Java specification, JSR-001, was the real-time specification for Java. I look forward to the ongoing insights that James gives us as an Advisor."

"I've known Paul and Perrone Robotics for some time, since he started showing up at the JavaOne conferences with his robotic vehicles," said James. "From the DARPA Grand Challenge entries, to Neil Young's LincVolt, to a laser-scanning helicopter, Paul has shown great skill and persistence as a real-time software technologist and entrepreneur. I am honored to help Perrone Robotics reach their next objectives toward autonomous robots."

James Gosling has been an advisor since March, 2017.
