During a joint meeting Tuesday, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors and the Charlottesville City Council voted to support a regional transit partnership and a memorandum of understanding regarding economic development.
The regional transit partnership initially was agreed to by both the board and the council in February.
It could be seen as a potential step toward a regional transit authority, which had been pursued in 2008, but stalled out, said Will Cockrell, director of planning for the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission.
While working on a transit coordination study, the TJPDC explored ways that Charlottesville Area Transit, JAUNT and University Transit Service could work together better, which led to the partnership.
