Germanna Community College's New President Looks To Forge More Partnerships

Janet Gullickson is from the Midwest, and that means she does things fast.

“In the Midwest, in winter, if you don’t move quickly, you freeze,” she said.

But Gullickson, who started her tenure as the sixth—and first female—president of Germanna Community College on July 1, wants to take her time to settle in and identify her goals for the college.

“It would be presumptuous of me to come in here right away and say, ‘I know what this place needs,’ ” Gullickson said during an interview last week at her office. “But I do have some things rolling around in my head.”

Gullickson takes Germanna’s helm from David Sam, who retired this summer after 10 years. Before taking the position, Gullickson was president of Spokane Falls Community College in Washington state. She also served as president of Front Range Community College in Colorado.
