The Botetourt County Planning Commission voted Monday to recommend denial of a rezoning request for a temporary asphalt plant in the northern part of the county.
Boxley Materials Co. hopes to operate the plant on Thompson Drive near Eagle Rock to provide asphalt for a highway improvement project planned for an adjacent nine-mile stretch of U.S. 220.
The plant would be in operation only for the three years it will take the Virginia Department of Transportation to complete the work, which is scheduled to begin next year.
A final decision on Boxley’s request for rezoning of the 20-acre site and a special-exception permit rests with the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors.
