Fast-casual restaurant inspiring healthier lifestyles joins recently-announced Stanford Kitchen as latest tenants to choose Boulevard College Center

Tropical Smoothie Cafe, the leading fast casual cafe concept known for its better-for-you food and smoothies with a tropical twist, has signed a lease within Boulevard College Center in the Owings Mills area of Baltimore County. The franchise company, which operates more than 600 locations across the country, is expected to open in late fall. Tropical Smoothie Cafe joins Stanford Kitchen, part of the Blueridge Restaurant Group, as the most recent restaurants to announce intentions to enter the 55-acre business community that is located adjacent to Stevenson University off Owings Mills Boulevard. The project is owned and managed by David S. Brown Enterprises, LTD.

Ken Bernstein of David S. Brown Enterprises represented the landlord and Joe Fleischmann, Principal of Segall Group represented the tenant in this transaction.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe presently operates nine restaurants throughout eight different counties throughout the Maryland area, with four currently under construction and expected to open by the end of this year. In addition to these thirteen restaurants, the national chain is searching for expansion locations in Baltimore, Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties, with growth plans calling for the addition of up to fifteen new locations within the state over the next two years.

Tropical Smoothie Cafe is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and offers an array of classic, superfood and kid’s smoothies including kiwi quencher, mango magic, blueberry bliss, as well as flavors packed with spinach, kale, acai and pomegranate. Sandwich and wraps options feature chicken apple club, chipotle chicken club, tropical chicken salad and hummus veggie. Also available are salads, flatbreads and breakfast items. The restaurant recently launched a revamped menu offering that includes supergreen Caesar wrap, chicken bacon ranch flatbread and Baja chicken wrap or bowl.

By 2020, the franchise expects to have more than 1000 locations open around the country including 100 in 2017. The restaurant emphasizes menu items prepared with fresh, natural and high-quality ingredients.

Boulevard College Center, a mixed-use project comprised of Class “A” office space, retail space and Stevenson University student housing residence buildings, is located adjacent to the Owings Mills campus of the University and the former Baltimore Ravens training facility. Current restaurant options include Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish Grill, Bon Fresco, Five Guys, Nino Taco, IHOP, Subway, Kavkaz Kebob, Dunkin’ Donuts and Edo Sushi.

“Consumers are increasingly seeking healthy eating options, as evidenced by the changing menu offerings of major fast-casual restaurants, as well as new concepts that are gaining traction and resonating among a growing population,” stated Ken Bernstein of David S. Brown Enterprises. “Tropical Smoothie Cafe has consistently been a leader in this movement and is recognized for its better-for-you and fresh ingredients, as well as its continued innovation of menu items that addresses this trend. Boulevard College Center is an ideal location for the restaurant, given its presence within walking distance from Stevenson University. We are confident that the Owings Mills community at large, including businesspeople working nearby, will also embrace them.”
