Fish & Richardson announced today that Kevin Wheeler, a principal in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, has been named a “D.C. Rising Star” by the National Law Journal (NLJ). The list “recognizes the region’s 40 most promising lawyers age 40 and under who have wielded great influence in their practice areas in the D.C. area and beyond.”Wheeler will be recognized at an event in D.C. on November 9, 2017.

At Fish, Wheeler represents some of the world’s top technology and chemical companies in their most important, bet-the-company patent infringement disputes, leading and trying highly complex cases that encompass numerous jurisdictions and causes of action. He has litigated dozens of patent cases including numerous trials, successfully resolving more than a dozen large-scale competitor-to-competitor patent disputes. In doing so, he has emerged as one of the top attorneys handling high stakes patent disputes before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). Most recently, he led the teams that obtained two big trial wins at the ITC for client Hyosung in a competitor dispute that implicates a significant portion of the multi-billion dollar ATM industry in the U.S. Before that, on behalf of client LG Chem, Wheeler led the team that after a multi-year battle successfully defeated a former supplier and its claims of patent infringement and breach of contract that threatened LG Chem’s multi-billion dollar battery business and implicated some of the world’s largest consumer electronics and electric vehicle companies.

In addition to his busy intellectual property practice, Wheeler maintains an active pro bono practice. For the past five years, he has worked with The Children’s Law Center in D.C., which provides legal services for at-risk children living in D.C.’s poorest neighborhoods.

He received his J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 2008 and his B.S. in electrical engineering, university honors, from the University of Maryland in 2004.
