Susan Bro and the Miller Law Group Announce the Launch of the Heather Heyer Foundation

8/27/17

Susan Bro and the Miller Law Group today announced the launch of the Heather Heyer Foundation. The Foundation was created in honor of Susan's daughter, Heather Heyer, who was killed two weeks ago at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, VA.

"Heather often said, 'If you're not outraged, you're not paying attention,'" said Susan Bro, mother of Heather Heyer and Co-Director of the Foundation. "We established this Foundation to further her mission of social justice by supporting others who are as passionate about public service as Heather was. My hope is that the Foundation's work will also encourage dialogue and understanding throughout our communities. I've said before that if I had to give Heather up, we were going to make it count. This Foundation is how I choose to remember her and honor her legacy."

The Heather Heyer Foundation has established a scholarship program to provide financial assistance to individuals passionate about positive social change. Scholarships will be awarded to those seeking a degree or certification in, but not limited to, law, paralegal studies, social work, social justice and education.

"Heather was an inspiring individual who we were proud to have known and worked alongside," said Alfred Wilson, Bankruptcy Division Manager at Miller Law Group and Director of the Foundation. "She encouraged others to find a way to make a difference in the world, and we're honored to be a part of creating this Foundation in her name to keep inspiring others to action."

Heather D. Heyer, a young woman with a big heart and a love for all individuals regardless of their race, religion or creed, was killed on August 12, 2017, when a car crashed into a crowd of counterdemonstrators who were protesting a white nationalist rally. Since 2012, she had been a paralegal at the Miller Law Group in Charlottesville, VA, where her work cemented her passionate commitment to social justice and civil rights.
