The under-construction Newport News Tech Center Research Park near Jefferson Lab and the Whole Foods-anchored shopping center is attracting interest from Peninsula tech firms and out-of-state businesses.
“It’s amazing the number of startup companies that originated in this area and how many will end up in this park, in this building,” developer John Lawson said.
W.M. Jordan Development Co. hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for an 80,000-square-foot, $18 million building across from Venture Apartments on Hogan Drive off Jefferson Avenue on Thursday morning. Building One, slated for completion in one year, is the first of 11 planned for the $250 million research park campus that’s managed by Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center.
