The Roanoke Valley’s first industrial-scale brewery is up and brewing.
At Ballast Point Brewing Co., a test run that began July 31 has produced three batches of the brewer’s signature brand of Sculpin IPA. The beer is now fermenting in large tanks at the California company’s new East Coast brewery and distribution center at the Greenfield industrial park in Botetourt County.
“So far, they’ve nailed it,” general manager Mike Alvarado said of the first round of beer-making.
The start of production marks the latest milestone for Ballast Point, which last year announced that it would invest $48 million to convert a former automotive parts factory into its newest brewery, creating about 175 new jobs.
