A 1,174-acre tract straddling the border of Caroline and Spotsylvania counties has been on Virginia’s radar for years due to its potential for development.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced Wednesday that the Fredericksburg Regional Alliance has received a $30,000 grant in Phase II of the Virginia Business Ready Sites Program development grants for the site. Caroline and Spotsylvania will provide $15,000 each in matching funds.

“The Virginia Business Ready Sites Program is a valuable tool that helps to identify and improve marketable sites for prospective businesses,” McAuliffe said in a news release. “As we continue to diversify and build the new Virginia economy, these sites will offer prospective business partners potential homes where they can locate, thrive and create opportunity in communities across the commonwealth. I congratulate all of the Phase II grantees on bolstering Virginia’s marketability for economic development projects.”
