CBRE and Rebuilding Together Service Day Revitalizes Spring Meadows Community

6/22/17

On June 16th, more than 150 volunteers took part in the largest CBRE Cares service day event of the Washington, D.C. chapter. In partnership with the national nonprofit Rebuilding Together and its affiliate, Rebuilding Together Anne Arundel County, CBRE professionals from around the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore region cleared out two acres of brush, dug 250 linear feet for drainage, distributed 15 tons of stone, and laid 20 yards of mulch to help improve the Spring Meadows community in Severn, Maryland.

“With the support of the community and the local city governance, CBRE was able to make a positive impact on an entire neighborhood that is home to many military and veteran families,” said Ryan Miller, CBRE Cares Regional Chairman.

Active duty Navy, Marines, and Air Force, the Anne Arundel County Police Department, and volunteers from Rebuilding Together joined this CBRE-led annual service day project. Other attendees included Colonel Edmund Barrett of U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen’s office, Maryland Delegate Mark Chang, County Councilman Peter Smith, and Rebuilding Together of Anne Arundel County Executive Director Barbara Cupp. The event was also supported by Pleasant Valley Property Services, Mission BBQ and the CBRE Military Group.

"Rebuilding Together Anne Arundel County is making a long-term commitment to revitalize the Springs Meadow community," said Barbara Cupp, Executive Director, Rebuilding Together Anne Arundel County. "With the help of CBRE, we were able to launch this program and provide local residents with a safe and healthy neighborhood."

The success of this year’s Build Day was funded in large part by the inaugural Grand Slam Charity Jam held in September of 2016, a fun-filled event with games, food and music that raised more than $60,000 for local CBRE charities.

“We look forward to an even more successful Charity Jam this August, enabling us to help more neighborhoods throughout the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore region,” added Miller.
