Virginia Beach Has Doubled Its Spending To Lure More Tourists — And Hotel Stays Are Rising

Karen Delancey keeps coming back to the city from Charlottesville because “it’s the closest beach to us.”

Delancey said she booked two nights in a hotel on the beach and was making plans to return before summer ends because she enjoys sunbathing during the day and walking along Atlantic Avenue at night.

The city is banking on tourists like Delancey .

Oceanfront hotels have been slowly regaining strength after the industry took a major hit during the Great Recession.
