Neil Parish, owner of The Kibitz Room in New Jersey, leases former Brooklyn Water Bagel Company space at Hooks Village, with plans to open in late summer

Neil Parish, founder and owner of The Kibitz Room in Margate, New Jersey, has been involved in the delicatessen industry his entire life and lived in Baltimore until he was thirty-two years of age. Leveraging his knowledge of the restaurant business and the Pikesville-Owings Mills retail environment, he is bringing his concept back home to open a “higher level delicatessen space” in the former Original Brooklyn Water Bagel Company space at Hooks Village. The new operation is expected to open in late summer in the mixed-use project owned and managed by David S. Brown Enterprises.

“We prepare nearly every food item we serve from scratch and on-premises and this homemade philosophy makes a tremendous difference in the taste profile,” explained Parish, who cut his teeth in the delicatessen industry working for Lenny’s Delicatessen and Attman’s Deli. “We utilize a traditional Jewish deli approach to The Kibitz Room which translates to baked goods, meats, fish-based items and side dishes created on-site. Our meats are never pre-cut and every sandwich is completely made to order. Our slogan is ‘Where Size Does Matter,’ is this will be evident in our over-stuffed sandwich assortment.”

With a complete menu available at www.GreatPastrami.com, The Kibitz Room will offer an array of deli-style sandwiches including hot corned beef and pastrami, hot brisket or beef, smoked turkey pastrami, honey maple turkey and tuna salad. This will be supplemented by eight varieties of knishes including spinach and potato, popular soups such as Matzo Ball and chicken noodle, smoked fish and burgers. The breakfast menu features challah French toast, bobka French toast, cheese blintzes and made-to-order omelettes. The location will also include a Pickle Bar.

“The difference in quality with the items we are bringing to the Pikesville and Owings Mills area from a deli perspective and what is currently available will be extremely noticeable,” Parish added. “Consumers become complacent and expectations sink based on what is available to them. Our homemade kishka, kreplach, knishes and sandwiches are unlike what any deli currently serves in the marketplace. And, because nothing is ever pre-cut, consumers will be able to discern an immediate difference.”

Hooks Village is a 50,000 square foot mixed-use project which contains two levels of commercial office space, as well as first-floor retailers and restaurants including Vito’s Gourmet, A Style Studio and Synchronicity Boutique. The office component consists of approximately 36,000 square feet of space, and the complementary retail offers 14,000 square feet. The project features roadside visibility from Hooks Lane and is located within immediate proximity to Reisterstown Road and Beltway Exit 20 in northwest Baltimore County.

The Kibitz Room will be located on the end-cap space of Hooks Village and is surrounded by a surface lot that provides free parking.

“Neil is a seasoned operator with track record of success in the delicatessen industry, has strong convictions about his product and presentation, and represents the perfect entrepreneur to assume this restaurant space,” explained Ken Bernstein of Leasing for David S. Brown Enterprises. “This is a prime restaurant space that, given its placement directly off the Baltimore Beltway, draws businesspeople and residents from a wide radius. People have been known to drive long distances for a great pastrami sandwich.”
