New Terp Garland Owens Jr. 'Always Thought About' Trying Football

After Gaithersburg, Md., native Garland Owens Jr. averaged 3.5 points and 2.4 rebounds throughout his four-year basketball career at Boston College, one could have reasonably expected Owens' collegiate athletic career to be finished.

Owens, however, had different ideas. He will join Maryland's football program as an immediately eligible graduate transfer provided he gets into a graduate program at the school. The Terps have not officially announced the addition of Owens, who played football at Magruder High School in Rockville, Md., but never suited up for Boston College's football squad.

Listed at 6-foot-5, Owens was an athletic wing player for the basketball team at Boston College. He had his best season in 2015-16, when he averaged 4.8 points and 3.3 rebounds.
