Howard County General Hospital Honors Heroes in Health Care

5/23/17

Howard County General Hospital will hold Heroes in Health Care, an evening celebrating the hospital’s lifesaving staff, on Friday, June 16. The fundraising event will honor HCGH cardiologists Drs. Michael Silverman and Feroz Padder and team for saving Marriottsville-resident Beverly Nees’s life when she experienced a heart attack last summer at the hospital.

“Dr. Silverman yelled orders as he wheeled me down the hall. He told someone to push the elevator button and get out of the way. I’ve never seen anyone work like he did,” Nees said. “He had everything coordinated. When we got to the emergency surgery room, 12 people on staff were waiting for me. Everyone knew what to do and jumped to work.”

Nees resumed her normal lifestyle two weeks later and will attend Heroes in Health Care. She’ll join honorary event co-chairs Robert and Susan Fischell of Dayton. The Fischells donated $1 million to the hospital in 2013 in recognition of the care they received at the hospital over the years. Robert Fischell holds more than 200 medical patents for inventions, such as coronary stents and an implantable insulin pump, that have been used at hospitals around the world.

Heroes in Health Care will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a VIP reception, followed by a welcome reception at 6 p.m., program and dinner at 7 p.m. and dancing and live music by The Klassix at 7:45 p.m. The event will take place at the Universities Space Research Association at 7178 Columbia Gateway Drive in Columbia.

In addition to Silverman and Padder, Heroes in Health Care will recognize the full team of Howard County General Hospital clinicians who saved Nee’s life: Linda Gold, R.N.; Kimberly Worsley, R.N.; William Simpson, Jeremy Appenzeller, Roxanne Donaldson, R.N.; Josephine Anand, R.N.; Dr. Clarita Frazier Dawson, Ting Ting Niu, P.A.; Nicole Brauning, R.N.; Mojgan Azadi, R.N.; Cynthia Balmaceda R.N.; and Dr. Andrea Ridgeway.

Tickets cost $125 and all proceeds benefit Howard County General Hospital. They can be purchased online at hcgh.org/heroes. For more information and sponsorship opportunities, contact Emily Shreve, special events and development manager, at 410-720-8706 or eshreve@jhmi.edu.
