The Hawthorn Group, LC, an international public affairs firm that provides strategic communications advice to investor-owned utilities and other regulated industries, including Fortune 500 corporations and national trade associations, today announced that Suzanne Hammelman has been appointed president and chief operating officer, effective immediately.

Hammelman, previously Hawthorn's Chief Client Officer, is one of the original partners that established the independently-owned firm in 1991. She has created and managed numerous successful multi-state issue advocacy campaigns and is a recognized expert on highly-targeted, cost-effective grassroots programs.

Before joining Hawthorn, Hammelman headed her own public affairs firm, served as political director for the National Association of Homebuilders and earlier worked in the U.S. Senate. An Indiana native, Hammelman graduated from The George Washington University.
