Despite MLB Intervention, Controversy Lingers Between Orioles, Red Sox

As the events of May 3 clearly show, the Orioles-Red Sox controversy isn't close to dying out.

This time, the tumult may have been exacerbated by a jumpy home plate umpire, Sam Holbrook, the crew chief, who ejected right-hander Kevin Gausman for hitting Boston's Xander Bogaerts with a pitch leading off the second inning.

Three innings later, center fielder Adam Jones, who was the subject of racial taunts two nights before, was ejected by Holbrook after a strikeout.

Gausman's ejection came hours after a conference call that Orioles executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette and manager Buck Showalter participated in with commissioner Rob Manfred and chief baseball officer Joe Torre. They were joined by Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski and manager John Farrell
