Bread Furst Wins 2017 James Beard Award

During the award ceremony for the 2017 James Beard Awards held in Chicago on May 1, 2017, HapstakDemetriou+’s client Mark Furstenberg won for “Outstanding Baker” for his Bread Furst bakery. This marks the 2nd consecutive year that a HapstakDemetriou+ client has been honored with Aaron Silverman winning 2016 “Best Mid-Atlantic Chef” for Rose’s Luxury restaurant.

“This was such a great honor for our client to win this renowned award,” stated Peter Hapstak, Co-Founder of HapstakDemetriou+. “This space was conceived as a baker’s dream workshop with the front of the bakery serving as a theater for interactions with customers,” Hapstak further explained.

Located in the Van Ness neighborhood of Washington, DC, the 3,200-square-foot shop features a working bread mixer in the front window and a steam-injected deck oven from Italy.

The James Beard Foundation Awards are the food industry’s highest honor. Awards are given in many categories, including chefs and restaurants, books, journalism, broadcast media, and restaurant design and graphics, as well as for lifetime and humanitarian achievements. Time magazine called them “the Oscars of the food world.”
