During the past 20 years, the University of Maryland women's basketball program has sent a steady stream of standout players to the WNBA. The Terps added two more former players to the professional ranks April 13, when guard Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and center Brionna Jones were selected in the first round of the 2017 WNBA Draft.

The Washington Mystics started a big night for the Terps, when they selected Walker-Kimbrough with the sixth overall pick. Walker-Kimbrough soon had company, when Jones was taken eighth overall by the Connecticut Sun. Walker-Kimbrough and Jones became the 16th and 17th Maryland players to be drafted since the WNBA began play in 1997.

Walker-Kimbrough and Jones are also the third Maryland tandem to be drafted in the first round. Former Terp standout forward/center Crystal Langhorne and forward/center Laura Harper were 2008 first-round draftees, followed by guard/forward Marissa Coleman and guard Kristi Toliver in 2009.
